At ISE 2012, Genelec, the leader in active loudspeaker systems, will be showcasing its range audio solutions for the commercial installation market, as well as running free, on-booth training sessions that are open to all delegates. Products on display will include the full 4000 Series active loudspeakers, including the new 4040A, as well as the 1238CF, a 3-way monitor designed for a wide range of professional applications. The training sessions will let integrators to get hands-on with products and see demos of acoustic simulation software for the fixed installation market.

A recent exhibition at Newlyn Art Gallery in Penzance, Cornwall, featured Genelec 8020B active monitors playing the sound recordings Chris Watson (of Springwatch fame) . A recipient of a BAFTA for his work with Sir David Attenborough, Chris’s latest project saw him collaborate with Phoebe Cummings (the recent V&A artist-in-residence) on a joint work that blends sound and sculpture.

Audiorama is a brand new facility inStockholm,Sweden, dedicated to staging innovative productions of sound art and electro-acoustic music. Said to be the only venue of its type in Northern Europe, it is located in an old torpedo workshop in Skeppsholmen and puts on a diverse range of events, from audio drama and sound art, through to special children and youth productions. All the events are different in their own way, but connected by their use of sound.

It's possible that you haven't even heard of Recording Engineer Jake Jackson; but you'd have to be living under a rock if you hadn't heard of the projects he's worked on. A 14-year veteran of North London's Sir George Martin-founded AIR Studios, Jackson began his career as a runner. In time he progressed to become the score recording and mix engineer on quite literally hundreds of film and television projects - projects such as 127 Hours, About a Boy, Sweeney Todd and the modern Dr Who, to name but a few. With clients such as Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore and John Williams on his CV, it is unsurprising the industry took notice.

Nightwish, the world-renowned rock band from Finland, has just recently completed their work on Imaginaerum, its most ambitious project to date. Featuring a brand new album and feature film, the ground-breaking project will be the band’s seventh studio album. Rounding off a hugely successful twelve months, Genelec announced the winners of their 2010 Distributor Awards at Prolight + Sound this year. Held at the Alte Oper, a landmark venue in central Frankfurt, the awards were presented at a gala dinner attended by over 100 people from Genelec’s worldwide distribution network and key company personnel from across the organisation.
A new addition to Genelec’s award-winning DSP range of monitors is set to be unveiled at Prolight+sound 2011 in Frankfurt. The latest model to benefit from this future-proof technology is the 1238CF, which is a 3-way monitor designed for a wide range of professional applications demanding excellence in audio monitoring. The model will be available for preview and demonstration on Booth 8.0 H25 alongside a range of upgrades and improvements to other key monitors in the Genelec portfolio for the professional market.
Genelec is to officially preview its updated 8000 Series at Prolight+sound 2011 in Frankfurt. Hideyuki “Daichi” SUZUKI is a sound producer/arranger of J-pop (Japanese popular music) who enjoys a high profile in Japanese popular culture. He has worked with many top artists in J-pop (SMAP, Yui, Ayaka Lida, Mihimaru GT, Kou Shibasaki and Morning Musume), and alongside his work in popular music, Mr Suzuki is also well known for his work creating soundtracks for many animation productions.
M3 (Music Mix Mobile), a New Jersey/California-based remote facilities company combining the talents of award-winning production professionals and state-of-the-art audio solutions, is a collective consisting of industry veterans John Harris, Jay Vicari, Joel Singer, Mitch Maketansky and West Coast-based partners Bob Wartinbee and Mark Linett. On Sunday, February 13, 2011, M3 was commissioned to capture and mix the music audio for the 53rd annual GRAMMY® Awards, broadcast live in 5.1 on CBS-TV from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. In the company’s dual “Eclipse” and “Horizon” trucks, the GRAMMY Award Show Broadcast Music Mixers John Harris and Eric Schilling, along with M3 Engineer-in-Charge Joel Singer, were on site to ensure the audio would be of the highest quality, and they chose Genelec 8200 Series Active DSP Monitoring Systems. Genelec DSP systems consisting of 8250A Bi-Amplified Active DSP Monitors (in an L-C-R array) and 8240A Bi-Amplified Active DSP Monitors (L-R rear), along with 7260A Active DSP Subwoofers, were used in M3’s Eclipse truck for the live music mix, as well as in the identical mirrored system in the Horizon offline remix truck.
As you might remember, about a month ago we had a survey running on the website. Although we are already making the finest active monitoring loudspeakers, there is always room for improvement.
Rounding off a string of award success since its launch, the Genelec 8260A has recently picked up yet another prestigious prize from the audio industry: the TEC Award 2010 for Outstanding Technical Achievement in the Studio Monitor category. Awarded at the recent NAMM show, this latest honour means that the 8260A has achieved the impressive feat of winning a prize in all the recognized audio awards during its first year on the market.
